About Allen
Allen was not supposed to write a music book.
He went to business school. He had a terrible GPA. When placement season came around and every other student was suiting up for campus interviews, Allen quietly decided: not for me.
What he did instead made no obvious sense at the time. He joined Byju's and started teaching music.
And then something happened that surprised everyone, including him. He was really good at it. More than a thousand students across the globe sat in his classes and left understanding something about music they had not understood before. He went on to teach at other music ed-tech companies, and over seven years accumulated more than 10,000 hours of teaching — Grade 8 Music Theory, Western Vocals, Audio Engineering and Music Production. He is currently pursuing a Visharad in Hindustani Classical Vocals.
And he kept asking the same question he had been asking since he was a kid:
Why is nobody explaining this the way it actually feels?
Because nobody had ever done that for him. Not in school, not in the classrooms he sat in or the systems he went through. Music was everywhere in his life and the door to understanding it stayed mostly closed — not because he was not capable, but because the explanation was never built for someone like him.
Music Like Never Before is that explanation. Finally.
It is written for everyone who felt music before they understood it. Every student who sat in a music class and came out more confused than they walked in. Every person who decided somewhere along the way that music was not for them, when the truth is the teaching just was not for them.
Allen calls them Als. There are a lot of Als out there. This one is for all of them.
Allen is the founder of TLYN — The Label You Need — a music education platform built on one conviction: music is not a talent you either have or do not. It is a language. And every single person on earth already speaks it. They just need someone to show them that they do.
